Cost vs Image Quality
In my attempts to decide how far to pursue my astrophotography imaging hobby I did the following image quality versus cost analysis.
The cost of each type of system is only approximate but hopefully representative and the equipment list could vary greatly from what I have here for the same results. The image quality scale is probably pretty subjective but comes from my observations of myself over more than 50 years of observing and what gets me excited in terms of image improvement. From levels 4 to 5 might arguably be the sweet spot on the curve: good images showing all the main features in some detail for a reasonable amount of money and effort. Notice how steep the curve gets after this.
